This pair of trinket bowls draws from two animals embedded in Indian visual culture: the hansa, associated with purity and tranquillity, and the gajasimha, the mythical union of elephant and lion that embodies strength and power. Cast in brass and finished in contrasting gold and black, the two pieces play on difference and confluence, recalling the visual idea of ganga-jamuna through the meeting of two surfaces. Together, mythology, metal and contrast give each bowl its own character while holding the pair in conversation.
