Bennie Smal’s ceramics are shaped entirely by hand, allowing the movement of the maker’s touch to remain visible in each piece. Discovered through Anthology’s travels in South Africa, his work is defined by an instinctive use of colour and by forms that often hold an element of surprise, whether through a contrasting interior or a detail revealed only on closer looking.
